Senator
Shevrin Jones
Miami-Dade County
Senator Shevrin “Shev” Jones is an educator, public servant, and consensus builder dedicated to addressing the issues facing Florida families. After teaching A.P. Chemistry at Florida Atlantic University High School in Broward County, Jones witnessed inequities in education and society that propelled him into public service. Elected to the Florida House in 2012, he championed bipartisan legislation, including securing dignity for incarcerated women, expanding a statewide clean syringe exchange program, enhancing safety and oversight for youth athletic coaches, and increasing transparency and accountability through police body cameras.
Now representing Florida’s 34th Senate District, which covers Northeast Miami-Dade County, Senator Jones continues his work for meaningful change. He has served on President Barack Obama’s College Promise Task Force and currently sits on President Biden’s Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). An active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Jones is also completing his Ph.D. in Educational Leadership at Florida Atlantic University.
